Flop Operation
Flop (Flap) operation, which is based on the principle of “open, see, remove and close”, is the process of cleaning the pockets formed under the gum tissue, tartar on the roots under the gums and the deposits in the reservoir formed by the pockets, by interfering the bone under the gingiva. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia and the lifted gingiva is flushed, cleansed and sutured with delicate stitches.
What are the advantages and complications?
The operation is painless and smooth and the patient feels comfortable after the operation. Cold is applied onto the area of operation. While hard and hot foods are restricted, it is also recommended to pay attention to physical activities.
The teeth will remain in place once the gums have been treated, and the patient continues to use his / her own teeth for many years. Flop operation does not involve any side effects or complications.
In case of lack of gingiva, a gum graft is applied to create gums or to increase the amount of existing gums.
